Battered and bruised

Battered And Bruised

The life expectancy of an average car has often been debated. Several years ago, it was quite widely discussed that manufacturers built cars to last for eight years. Obviously this doesn’t mean that your car will suddenly stop working after eight years exactly but, it could be interpreted as manufacturers use parts that are only designed to be functional for eight years.

Fortunately, most cars do survive a lot longer than eight years.Diesels do tend to outlive their petrol counterparts. It’s not uncommon to hear of some diesel cars covering 200,000 – 300,000 miles before they eventually become uneconomical to repair. Japanese cars such as Honda and Toyota also have an exceptional record for car longevity. It’s all well and good a car lasting mechanically for eight years, but this certainly gives no guarantee when it comes to a car’s exterior.

Cars eight years old and over have probably traveled great distances and have generally been well used. As with everything in life, a car will eventually start to show its age. Stone chips, parking dents and rust are tell tale signs of a car that has been well used. When you think about it though, the chances of a car that has traveled 100,000 miles having no bodywork imperfections have got to be millions to one.

When you consider the number of potential hazards that our cars go through every day, it’s a miracle most cars last as long as they do. If you do happen to own a car in need of stone chip repair, dent removal or even rust removal in the Dorset area then at Autopaint Repair we can provide all these services and more. Each of these services can help to return your car to its former glory and take away all those nasty signs of aging.
